The images and stories produced from the tragedy in Orlando are heart-wrenching. And while we are tempted to see America through the prism of the horror and terror, the real America quickly shows up: it is the America where its people run toward trouble to rescue, aid, give care and comfort. And it is the America where hundreds of its people line up to donate blood and gather to pray and show solidarity. It reminded one of our teammates of a quote that was particularly on point:

“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’  Fred Rogers (of Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood).

It is in the response to tragedy that we can find the real America. And that is inspiring.
