The habits of successful business relationship builders [VIDEO]

Building strong relationships in business requires an engrained set of habits that work to endear you to peers and customers, and leave them wanting to continue working with you.

It will be tough to maintain your success without working on your relationships. You will interact with co-workers, customers and peers in the industry on a regular basis – and if you don’t exhibit the kind of habits that typify strong relationship builders, you may not be able to keep up with them. There are a few things you’re going to have to work on to maintain tight bonds with others, such as:

1. Taking the blame
If a customer is complaining about poor service and you take the blame, even if the circumstance isn’t your fault, your peers will recognize that’s a fairly admirable thing to do and people will respect you for it. If you take personal responsibility for a mistake, the situation is more likely to resolve easily and you’ll look like the hero!

2. Don’t wait for others to ask for help
Plenty of people will offer help when asked, but how many will automatically do so without so much as a hint? If you’re always willing to assist, even when people don’t ask, they will recognize the value you offer as a helpful hard worker. Pay attention to other people, recognize when they need help and don’t hesitate to step in when you see a need for assistance. 

3. Acknowledge your mistakes
This one goes hand-in-hand with taking the blame. If you mess up, don’t hesitate to admit it and begin working on a solution. Before anyone even points out your poor decision, acknowledge you made a mistake and move on. People will take note of an act like this.

Selfless and honest interactions with others are the best way to build strong relationships. Don’t forget these tips as you forge bonds with your peers.
